Living Paintings
We all know that reading has many positive benefits and our support of the charity, Living Paintings, has helped them achieve their purpose ‘to put the life chances of blind and partially sighted children on a par with sighted youngsters by providing them with equal access to the visual world of pictures, books and learning’. They use raised, tactile picture books that are explored with the help of immersive audio descriptions to create a different way of seeing. For over 30 years their unique audio and tactile Touch to See books, have helped communities of blind and partially sighted children learn to read, supported them in schools and promoted social interaction whilst having a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing. The Touch to See books are loaned, free of charge to more than 1,800 child beneficiaries from a hugely varied library meaning no blind or partially sighted child is excluded from the service because of their financial circumstances or location.
Our latest grant will go some way to helping them produce 3 new titles which is wonderful news.
