The Widows Empowerment Trust

It was lovely to hear from The Widows Empowerment Trust (WET) about the wonderful work they have been doing throughout the year and how they utilised our grant to support bereaved people of all ages who are struggling with their grief and loneliness.  As well as providing a listening ear to people via their team of volunteers, the charity seeks to bring people together, alleviating feelings of isolation and they do this by holding social events such as meals out which provide the opportunity to make friends with people who are going through the same experience. Online cooking and baking classes help to re-kindle people’s interest in looking after themselves, virtual bingo provides a bit of fun and there are many more activities in which to take part. In the main however the charity and volunteers are there simply to listen to people at a time they need it most. WET works in collaboration with many other great organisations such as Cruse Bereavement which expands their knowledge and accessibility.  95% of beneficiaries who were visited at home by them were able to report feeling less lonely and 100% of beneficiaries reported they felt they had someone to turn to during times of high anxiety. This is fantastic to hear.
